Sargent William “Bud” Cooper, 60, passed away at his home on Monday May 26th in New Madrid, MO
He was born March 31, 1965 in Jonesboro, AR to the late William "Bill" and Joan Duffy Cooper who preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Necie Marshall.
On January 19, 2017 he was united in marriage to Catherine "Katie" Dawson Cooper, who survives of the home.
Bud started his life in Law Enforcement in 1988. He graduated from SEMO with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. He began working for MSHP in 1990 and for 29 years he held many hats with the Highway Patrol, helping form the SEMO major case squad in 2002 and was their commander and on the Board of Directors for 17 years. During his years in law enforcement, he has received top many awards to list them all on here. After retiring from MSHP Bud ran for sheriff of New Madrid County. He served one term as Sheriff to New Madrid County until health issues forced him into retirement.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, his 2 sons William “Trey” Cooper III of Oklahoma City, OK and Ethan Chamberlain (Leah) Cooper of Cape Girardeau, MO. 3 stepsons, Glen Allen (Vanessa) Helmes of Sikeston, MO, Dawson Jacob (Ana) Helmes and Alex Webster Helmes of New Madrid, MO. 2 grandchildren Emanuel Norlex Carrisalez and Bailey Michael Cooper, 2 Brothers. James "Jim" Cooper (Helen) of Geneva, IL. And Andrew Cooper of New Madrid. MO.
Visitation will be Saturday May 31, 2025 from 11am to 2 pm at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid, Mo.
