Patricia Rost Obituary

Patricia “Pat” Stricker Rost, 80, of New Madrid went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.
Pat was born in Charleston, Missouri, on May 30, 1940, the daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude Stricker. She attended St. Henry’s Catholic School in Charleston and received a nursing degree from Holy Cross School of Nursing in South Bend, Indiana. On September 1, 1962, she married her loving husband of 58 years, Lawrence H. Rost. Pat was a resident of New Madrid for most of her life where she raised her two sons, enjoyed visits from her seven grandchildren and later joined her husband as the COO of the Lawrence H. Rost Law Office.  She dedicated her life to her family and enjoyed many weekends taking care of the family property near Lake Wappapello.  She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, cooking, canning relish, Easter wiffleball tournaments, Cardinal baseball, evening pontoon rides up the St. Francis River and simply sitting quietly enjoying the gentle breezes off the water.
She is survived by her husband Larry of New Madrid; two sisters, Mary Ann Hillmeyer (Mike) of Marshallville, Georgia and Paula Rost (Peter) of New Madrid; a brother, Stephen Stricker of Oxford, Mississippi; two sons, Hunter (Laura) of Nashville, Tennessee and Paul (Jody) of Warson Woods, Missouri; seven grandchildren and ten nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Peter A. Rost, Jr., Bud Henry, Ruch Holiman, Dr. Sam M. Hunter and William “Willie” Alexander.
The family sends a special thanks to nurses Maria Allen, RN, and Jamie Henry, RN, and all those at Guardian Home Health Care for their loving, compassionate, and selfless care of Pat as well as Larry and the family, during her illness. Also, further thanks to Donna Sauls and Willie Alexander.
Due to COVID-19 there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 4, 2020, at the Immaculate Conception Church in New Madrid and a private interment will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Given the current situation, no funeral dinner is planned.
The family is requesting all who wish to attend the funeral to do so responsibly by wearing masks and social distancing to the extent possible. For those who are at a higher risk of exposure or otherwise cannot attend, in lieu of flowers, a memorial gift can be made in Pat’s name to any of the following organizations: New Madrid Historical Museum; Immaculate Conception Church of New Madrid, or the American Cancer Society.
