N.J. Nowell, 95, of New Madrid, Missouri, passed away May 26, 2021 at his home surrounded by family and loved ones.
He was born June 9, 1925, in Caruth, Missouri to the late Obed Nowell and Pearl Wagster Nowell.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by; two sisters, Virginia Carpenter and Betty Thompson, two brothers, Bob Nowell and Bill Nowell, and one daughter, Teresa Medlock.
Mr. N.J. was member of the Methodist church and the Methodist Men's group. He was a Mason for 71 years as a 32nd degree. He served as chairman of the board of the ASCS committee and was a member of the Eagles club #4206, He was one of the Last of the Wednesday night poker club, which met for nearly 50 years. He loved farming and always kept a good garden hoe for chopping cotton. He liked hunting and loved fishing on Lake Okeechobee.
Survivors include, his wife Shirley Nowell, of the home, two daughters, Melissa Nowell of New Madrid and Linda Nowell of Valmeyer, Illinois, one son, Rick (wife, Cindy) Nowell, of New Madrid, son-in-law, Robert (wife, Jean) Medlock, of New Madrid, three granddaughters, Allison (husband, David) Courtois of New Madrid, Madeline (husband, Zach) Bell of Sikeston, Meredith (husband, Sam) Wilson of Oklahoma City, three grandsons, Joshua Nowell and Caleb Powell, both of New Madrid and Zachary Nowell, of Poplar Bluff, four great grandsons, five great granddaughters, several nieces and nephews including one special niece, Saundra Cope, of New Madrid.
