Matthew Everett Campbell, Sr was born September 23rd, 1964 to Girlie Campbell and Jerry Jennings in Portageville, Missouri. He was the oldest of Girlie’s four children, followed by Keith (who preceded him in death as a child), Nicole “Nicky”, and Vikki “Chelle”. His other siblings include Keith, Patricia, Jackie, Marva, Joseph, and Phil.
Matthew was raised in church and prayer meetings, and accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal savior, at an early age. He was a member in many churches throughout his life, and enjoyed giving inspirational messages, as well. He enjoyed singing, drawing, cooking, and building in his free time.
Matthew Campbell, better known as Everett to his siblings and cousins, and “Uncle Matt” to his two nieces Toot and Nini, was raised in Chicago. He attended Taft High school and Truman College. He then went on to serve in the United States Army. Before his health issues, he was a hard worker of many jobs to support himself and his family.
Matthew was known for his serious take charge attitude, a quality inherited from his mother. Matthew took pride being a protector for all of his family members. He treated them all as siblings, no matter what. He is remembered for his advice, his “big brother attitude” and his distinctive style and love of cologne. Matthew was also known as “Casper” in the neighborhood to his friends. Matthew would often babysit his little cousins and nieces, and take them to parks as a way to meet new lady friends.
Although he was very handsome and popular among the ladies, he was a romantic. Matthew went on to get married twice. He had three children; Matthew, Jessica, and Mateo in Chicago with first wife, Jeana. He later married Teresa Campbell in 2008, and loved and raised, his two children Mathais “Shawn”and Shanequa, as a family of his own in New Madrid, Missouri, until his death.
He was definitely a family man. Matthew had an especially unbreakable bond with his mom, two sisters Nicole and Vikki and their two children Nini and Toot. He talked as often as possible, to multiple family members about faith, God’s blessings, family relationships, things of the past, and whatever else came to mind. He will be remembered most for his faith in God, the way he spoke with a loving tone, his good smelling cologne, his attempts to sing, and his loving big brother persona.
Matthew is preceded in death by both his parents, his brother, Keith. His Aunts: Mable, Agnes, and Geraldine. His Uncles: Herschel, Samuel, and Herbert, and other relatives and cousins.
Matthew leaves to cherish his memory. Five children: Matthew Jr. (Jessica), Mateo (Briana), Jessica, Shanequa, and Mathais. His brothers and sisters, his nieces and nephews, his grandchildren: Justin, Maddison, Makyleigh, Teanna, Keylen, Kamaria, and Kacen, a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
