Mary Patricia Hunter, 73, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family and friends on April 8th, 2023.
Born March 21, 1950, daughter of the late Samuel L. and Patti Hunter Jr. Mary Pat was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School. She graduated high school from St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis, Mo. She had a beautiful voice and was cast as the lead role in the classic play “Oklahoma” her senior year. She graduated from Murray State University with a bachelor degree and obtained her master’s from Southeast Missouri State University. She was a passionate educator and dedicated her career to special education and working with the vision and hearing impaired. She was a longtime board member of the Kenny Rogers Children’s Center. Mary Pat was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and a longtime board member at the Bank of New Madrid.
Survivors include: one daughter, Amanda Andrews of New Madrid; one son, Nicholas (Stephanie) Andrews of Jonesboro, AR; two grandchildren, Aiden and Riley Kate Andrews; four sisters Harriette Myers and Heidi Hunter of New Madrid, MO, Cynthia McGee of Columbia, MO and Mollie Kelly of Leawood, KS; two brothers, Samuel L. Hunter III and Timothy P. Hunter of New Madrid, MO.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar “Eddie” Garland HIllis, and three sisters, Laura Pinnell Hunter, Linda Leah Hunter, and Pamela Anne Hunter.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m, Monday, April 10, 2023 at the Immaculate Conception Church in New Madrid with a rosary being said at 7:00 pm. Services will be Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father Mark Binder officiating.
Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Doyle, Hunter Doyle, Latham Hunter, Joseph Hunter, Jeffrey Hunter, Jake Nesselrodt, Travis McGee, and Ben Kelly.
Honorary pallbearers: Matthew McGee, Lonnie Kellum, and R.D James.
We would like to give special thanks to her longtime friend and nurse, Mary Ojeda.
