Laura Neal (Shy) Sinex, 92, of Cape Girardeau, MO passed away on September 8, 2023, at The Lutheran Home Assisted Living. Laura Neal was born on December 21, 1930 in New Madrid, MO to Arthur and Mildred Shy. She was the fourth of ten children and was named after both grandmothers. She graduated high school at Loretto Academy and later went on to teach in Louisville, KY where she also enjoyed the Kentucky Derby. In the early 1980’s, Laura Neal was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to teach English as a second language in Beijing. It was in China where she met and married her true love, Gene Sinex. Gene built their home in Colorado on Vallecito Creek where they enjoyed retirement with their beloved family of dogs. Laura Neal was especially close to “Lucy” and their cat, “Toot”. In later years, they moved to Springdale, AR to live in the Christian Science Village where they enjoyed great friendships. After a few years in Springdale, they moved to Cape Girardeau to be closer to Laura Neal’s family. Laura Neal is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her parents, Arthur and Mildred (Phillips) Shy, sisters Josephine (Shy) Richardson, Harriett (Shy) Porter and Alice (Shy) Recker and brother, Robert Shy. A private family graveside service will be held in New Madrid, MO. A special thanks to Erwin Porter who kept Laura Neal is good supply of sweets and company for the last few years of her life.
