In Loving Memory of Franklin Hicks
Franklin Hicks, 78, resident of Mableton, Georgia transitioned on April 17, 2021.
He was born March 18, 1943 in Lamar, Mississippi to the late Delphus Sr. and Gladys (Woodson) Hicks.
On February 17, 1968 he was united in marriage to Pearl (Rowe) Hicks (deceased).
He is survived by three daughters, Lynnette Hicks of Austin, TX, Sonya Hicks of Mableton, GA, and Robin Rowe of St. Louis, MO, five brothers, William Edward Hicks (deceased), George Hicks (Patricia) of Plainfield, IL, Delphus Hicks, Jr. (Frankie) of Bolivar, TN, L. T. (Sarah) Hicks of Lamar, MS, Freddie Hicks (Bernice) of Memphis, TN, four sisters Claudia Norwood (Charles), Glossie Richards (Willie), Lealor Turner of Lamar, MS, and Cathryn Moore (Jerry) of Forest Park, IL, Illinois, four grandchildren, Keilon Daniels, Rahkeem (Rahkee) Daniels, Arion Mershon and Shekiel (Shaq) Bolin and a host of other relatives and friends.
In 1962, Franklin graduated from New Salem High school in Lamar, Mississippi. After graduation he attended Rust College and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1967. He spent his time off working in Chicago to pay for his studies. He returned to his former high school to work as a student teacher. Later, he relocated to Morganfield, Kentucky and worked as a civil service employee for Breckinridge Job Corps Center. In 1972 he received an offer to teach 7th & 8th grade History at Howardville School. He earned a Masters’ in Education and in 1979 became Principal of the 4th - 8th grades at Lilbourn Elementary and remained there until his retirement in 2000. Not able to stay away, he returned as an AP instructor for four years then later as the Director of the Howardville Head Start Center. He attended First Baptist Church of Howardville.
Today we pay homage to Mr. Franklin Hicks and his 28 years of dedication to educating our children, as well as, being a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, and mentor.
