Dixie (Baynes) Leonberger

Dixie Baynes Leonberger, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away on June 29, 2023, at the age of 96. She will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, fiestyness, zest for life, and love for animals. She was surrounded by loved ones as she passed. 

Dixie was born February 7, 1927, the third daughter of the late R.F. and Lillian Hoffmeister Baynes. She was preceded in death by her two older sisters, a niece, a nephew, many special friends, and beloved pets. 

Dixie was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Madrid. She worked as a bookkeeper for many automobile dealers in the area until she retired around age 80. 

Survivors include many friends and family including: Linda Fowler (Gary), Christy Fowler Hawkins (Rick), Bethany Fowler Dilts (Jeff), Tim Adams (Mimi), Nate Hymer, Ben Dilts, Ryan Dilts, Morgan Hawkins, Maddie Hawkins, Donald Lloyd (Pam), Angie Lloyd Reynolds (Robert), Kirk Lloyd (Jennifer), Aly Friend (Ellis), Zach Friend, Paula Neal (Rickey), Jane Vann (Mickey), Nancy Nunn, Mable Walker, Betty Bell Sides, and many nieces and nephews. 

A visitation will be held on July 3, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid. Dixie would suggest memorial contributions be made to St. Jude or Mac’s Mission in lieu of flowers.
