Craig Scobey Obituary

Craig Allen Scobey, 62 of New Madrid, Mo went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, September 24, 2021. Craig was born in Hayti, Missouri on February 14,1959 to William “Dub” Scobey and Dorotha “Dot” Washburn Scobey.

He graduated from New Madrid High School and attended Southeast Missouri University where he was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity.

On June 19, 1981, Craig married his best friend and wife of 36 years, Paula “Putty” Hampton Scobey. They were blessed with two sons, William “Billy” Paul Scobey of New Madrid and Air Force Master Sergeant Christopher “Kiefer” Allen Scobey of Misawa, Japan.

Craig was an employee of Noranda Aluminum for many years. In his community, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, and served on the board of the New Madrid Historical Museum, past member of the New Madrid Country Club Board and member of New Madrid Eagles Aerie 4206.

An avid historian, Craig had a vast knowledge of American History, especially the Civil War, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He loved playing golf and hunting with family and friends. He will be remembered as a great fan of Cardinal Baseball, St Louis Blues Hockey and Mizzou Football.

Survivors include sons Billy Paul, his daughter Kristina and son Landyn, son Christopher and wife Ashleigh and daughter Autumn. Sister Karen Scobey Chapman and husband Kenneth Chapman of New Madrid. Nephews: Thom McKay of Friendship TN, his son Garrett McKay and wife YaVessa McKay and their son Elijah “Eli” McKay of New Madrid. Corey McKay and his wife Becky and son Colton of New Madrid. Kevin McKay, daughter Casey McKay and granddaughter McKenzie, his wife Misty and children Jaden, Jacob, Jeremiah and Harper Grace of Dexter. Sister-in-law Corlis Hailey and Father-in-Law Kenneth “Hoppy” Hampton of New Madrid, as well as a great number of extended family and friends. Craig was a kind and softspoken man. Known to be a wonderful friend, father and brother. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dub and Dot Scobey of New Madrid, grandparents Herman and Dixie Washburn of Marston, Mo and Homer and Grace Scobey of Sikeston, Mo and dear friends James Ware of Sikeston and Gene Recker of New Madrid, as well as mother-in-law Elsie Hampton of New Madrid and brother-in-law Tom Hailey of Dallas, TX.

Visitation will take place at Richards Funeral Home, 436 Main Street in New Madrid at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1st. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church at 605 Davis Street in New Madrid at 1:00 p.m. with interment at Mounds Park Cemetery in Howardville, Mo.

Pallbearers: Ben David Ashley, Richard “Baz” King, Dewayne Stanley, E B Gee, Marty Montgomery, Larry Yeargain, Thom McKay, Corey McKay, Kevin McKay, Garrett McKay, Colton McKay and Landyn Scobey.
