Blendia Carolyn Phelps passed away on July 02, 2024 at the age of 81 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau,Mo. She was born on February 23, 1943 in St. Louis, MO to the late Cecil and Ruby (Smith) Atchley.
Blendia was united in marriage to Bob Phelps on June 30, 1961 in Caruthersville, MO; he preceded her in death on May 23, 2014.
Blendia taught English at Lilbourn High School and was librarian at New Madrid County Central and Lilbourn for many years. she was a dedicated teacher, sister, wife, mother, grandma and great grandma.
She is survived by her three daughters; Deena (Doug) Powell, Joni Harris, both of New Madrid, Mo and Alison (Randy) Hornburg of Sikeston, MO. Her seven grandchildren Brooke Bradley Farrenburg, Blake Harris, both of New Madrid, MO, Erica Hardin of Ellsinore, MO, Brennen Bradley of Sikeston, MO, Jordan Harris of New Madrid, MO, Addison Birdwell of Sikeston, MO and Lilly Birdwell of New Madrid, MO. She is also survived by her five great-granddaughters: Piper, Harlee and Aubree Harris, Avery Underwood, and Brooklyn Gannon. Her siblings Larry Atchley of Malden, MO Mike (Kim) Atchley of St. Louis, MO, Janice Roth of Metairie, LA, Glynn (Geraldine) Atchley of Pittsburg, KS, Lynn (Joan) Atchley of Benton, MO, Sherrie Culver of Sikeston, MO, Brian (Debbie) Atchley of Poplar Bluff, MO, Karen (Robert) Clay of Marston, Mo
In addition to her parents and her husband, Blendia was preceded in death by three brothers; Travis,Elvis, and Vince Atchley and one son-in-law David Harris
Visitation is Thursday evening at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid, Mo on Thursday July,11, 2024 from 5pm to 8pm with Funeral on Friday , July 12, 2024 at 1 pm
