On February 12, 1956 Anthony “Bubbie” Sims was one of 8 children he was born in Osceola, Arkansas to Ruth Dorsey and Tommy Sims. On July 19, 2019 he was granted his wings and was preceded in passing by mother Ruth Dorsey, brother Lee Boyd Jackson, and 2 sisters Evonne Sims and Cassandra Johnson.
Bubbie accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on October 31, 1976 at 2nd Baptist church in Columbia, MO. He later joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Lilbourn, MO on Sunday February 13, 2005 with christian experience. He was part of New Jerusalem Ministry in Parma, MO for 2 years, which he was Ordained under Sr. Pastor Floyd Wade.
In 1976 Bubbie graduated with honors from Lilbourn High School in Lilbourn, MO and in the fall he attended Mizzou University in Columbia, MO. After being in college for 2 years he found out his first born was on the way. His mother told him he had to come home and help raise his child. Following his mother’s instructions he returned home and started working. From 1978 - 1981 he worked for the MO Highway Department performing several job duties. From 1981 - 1985 he worked various jobs until late 1985 when he started at Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. (Power Plant). In 2005 Bubbie was diagnosed with Kidney failure and had to start dialysis. After working and going to dialysis 3 days a week for 4 years he was granted his first disability in 2009. He later returned back to the Power Plant in 2011 and worked 2 more years before he was granted his 2nd disability. Bubbie received several awards and retired in 2015 as a Journeyman Electrician.
Many knew Bubbie as a smart, well dressed man who loved his children dearly. His children will always remember all the trips and vacations we enjoyed and shared with him from childhood to adulthood. He was very educated and love to preach and teach. He taught us, “ Work hard for what you want in life. I worked hard for everything I have and I can say I have lived a good life”. Although he kept to himself he was always willing to help when asked. During the holidays he would make baskets filled with fruits, blankets, small gifts, greeting cards with money and would deliver them to the elderly women in the community. Bubbie also loved vehicles, which he was often told by many that he had a car lot in his yard. He loved eating Steak, Salad, Coco Peebles, and plenty of sweets (mainly Zingers). The man known for his many words that we called DAD and PAPA while he never called us by name but affectionately called us Daughter, Son, and Granddaughter...you are loved, cherished and missed!
Although he’s no longer with us his bloodline still flows thru his 5 children; LaKenya Pledger of St. Louis, MO, Anthony Pledger of Miami, Florida, YasMika Hughes of Austin, TX, Kiara Jones of St. Louis, MO, Trevon Sims of Lilbourn, MO and thru his 2 Grand-daughters Janavia Pledger and JaKaylen Pledger of St. Louis, MO. He also leaves to cherish his memories 4 brothers; George Dorsey Jr. of Bloomington, IL, Charles Dorsey of Indiana, Harvey Dorsey of Bloomington, IL, Dennis Dorsey of Kansas City, MO, and 1 sister Gloria Dorsey, of Tunica, MS. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
