Travis Berkley Ellis was called home to our Lord on Saturday, April 28th at 9:30 a.m. He was surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home. Travis was born in New Madrid, MO. on June 18, 1940 to Frank and Mary Ann Ellis who were local farmers in the community. He was the youngest of nine children. Travis was married to Delois Polk on January 7, 1966 in Holly Springs, MS. From this happy union of 52 years was born five precious children, four sons and one daughter. Mr. Ellis had a successful teaching career in the New Madrid County R-1 Enlarged School System for 30 years. To further support his family, Travis established a property management company that included land and rental property. His entrepreneurial spirit included bringing his children along to work at his properties. This experience taught them discipline and a great work ethic that guided them to their present careers.
He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Delois Ellis and five children; Travis B. Ellis Jr. of Louisville, KY., Detra Ellis of Houston, TX., Darrick (Daniella) Ellis of Olive Branch, MS., Kevin (Diandra) Ellis of Houston, TX., and Kenneth Ellis of New Madrid, MO. Two grandchildren, Alecia King of South Haven, MS. and Darrick C. Ellis (DJ) of Olive Branch. Two sisters in law; Beverly Echols and Julia Polk of Victoria, MS. He also leaves behind one brother, Major (Jean) Ellis of Apple Valley, CA and one sister in law, Ora Lee of Toledo, OH. Additionally, two god sons; Dennis (Tracy) Minner of New Madrid, MO. and Steve (Kathy) Barber of New Madrid, MO. A host of nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.
