Jeannette Haubold

Jeannette Haubold, of Marston, Missouri, died Jan. 2, 2017, at 85 years of age, surrounded by her family.  
She was daughter of the late John Haubold and Ivy D. Haubold. Born July 11, 1931, she was the fourth of five children, survived by one sister, Katherine Jeaniece Washburn and several nieces and nephews.
She graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a bachelor of science degree in education and psychology with an emphasis on children with special needs. She later completed her master’s degree in education.
Jeannette was a professional educator for more than 36 years in New Madrid County. Her experience included classroom teaching, school counselor, educational specialist diagnosing learning problems and program director for severely handicapped students. She also coordinated and wrote the first special education curriculum for the local school district.
During her years as an educator, Jeannette was actively involved in other professional activities. She served as president of the community teacher’s group and later served as president of the Southeast Missouri District Teacher’s Association. While serving on the Missouri State Teacher’s Board of Directors, she was honored and recognized for meritorious service to education, and also received recognition by the State of Missouri 80th General Assembly for significant achievement as an educational leader.
After retirement, Jeannette was elected and served six years on the local school board. She also served on the Southeast Missouri district school board and Missouri State School board of directors.
Involvement in her church has always been a main focus for Jeannette. Additionally, her community involvement included the Civic Club, Relay for Life, 4-H Club and the Bootheel Mental Health Council. Jeannette has served on the Board of Aging Matters since the fall of 2013.
Visitation will begin at noon with a service to follow at 1 p.m. Friday at Richards Funeral Home with burial in Mounds Park Cemetery.
